		<description>Yes it is indeed depressing. Given all the concerns that employers are supposed to have about women disappearing for large tracts of time to have babies, it would seem more likely that older women would become more attractive prospects, rather than less attractive ones (in terms of employability I mean).  

I don&#039;t read women&#039;s magazines (well, maybe occasionally if in a waiting room) because the ones I have come across are overwhelmingly awful.  Maybe I would have liked Eve?  Bit late to try it now.  But I doubt it somehow.  

I am female and in my 40s.  I have four children and like you, I am now self-employed.  I gave up on my academic career for many reasons, but one was certainly that I had to work at least twice as hard as my male colleagues to earn the same respect.  

But I also think that in many ways women don&#039;t help themselves or other women.  It never ceases to amaze me how worked up many women get about their appearance, how much interest they take in what they wear and what they do with their hair.  Whilst they feel it is important then obviously that is going to rub off elsewhere.</description>
