Editing for Publishers
I have copy-edited titles for some of the biggest publishing houses in the UK – Bloomsbury, Hodder & Stoughton, Constable & Robinson, Pearson, to name a few – and some of the smallest, such as Unbound Books. I also work for publishing packagers.
I have edited memoirs, non-fiction (mainly finance, biography and true crime), university text books, academic works and journal articles. You can see a small selection of these titles on my testimonials page.
I work only on-screen, in Word, and don’t offer proofreading at the stage a book is on the page. I also offer anglicisation of overseas English-language books. You will find me reliable, and capable of delivering accurate copy-editing or substantive editing to deadline, applying as light or heavy a touch as requested. I’m happy to deal with authors directly at query stage.
I’m an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and hold a Licentiateship in Editing Skills (LCGI) from the City & Guilds. I have a BA Ord. in English. As a journalist, I have worked on the production side for newspapers and magazines since the late 1980s and have a thorough understanding of the publication process. Prior to turning freelance, I had several staff roles as an in-house editor at corporates and non-profits.
